The four corners of Africa and the “other” elephants (Juv. 10, 148–150)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Even all of Africa was not enough for Hannibal, says Juvenal in his Satire 10. The satirist then describes the borders of Africa, stretching from the Moorish Ocean to the Nile, the Aethiops people, and the other... elephants. How did the elephants get here? The question is a fair one. Or is the text corrupt? I aim to answer these questions in the following article.
