Nothing New Under the Sun: Euriál and Lukrécia Adapted to Verses by Aladár Kiss (1929)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper discusses a 20th-century Hungarian adaptation in verses of E. S. Piccolomini’s Historia de duobus amantibus. The author of the adaptation was an otherwise unknown poet, by the name of Aladár Kiss. Taking as a starting point one of Kiss’ notes to the text, the paper focuses on fictitious songs written about Lukrécia, the female protagonist of the story, comparing her attitude towards such songs with the mentality of another fictional female character, Julcsa Manga, created by a late 19th-century Hungarian novelist, Zsigmond Justh.
