Abstract

The aim of our study is to present the prevalence of depression and burnout among university students in the post-COVID period. A common topic in the international literature is to assess the mental state of university students and the risk factors for maintaining or improving their quality of life. Our cross-sectional study was conducted among full-time special education students. As this group of students prepares for the helping profession, it is particularly important what coping resources they must overcome the difficulties and professional challenges they face. The aim of our study is to explore and aid in the diagnosis of demographic and institutional risk and protective factors for burnout and depression. Method: depression was measured with the abbreviated Beck Depression Questionnaire (Kopp-Fóris 1993), burnout with the Maslach Burnout Test, as well as the Psychological Immune System Survey (Oláh 2005) and the Coping Methods Questionnaire (Lazarus). Our results indicate that our students need a definite psychoeducational intervention to maintain their well-being and future professional effectiveness.
