Abstract

The study seeks to examine the relationship between employees' personality traits and their expectations of their manager. In order to explore the relationship between employees' personality type and their preferred leadership style, a questionnaire survey was conducted. The questions of the questionnaire were formulated on the basis of validated measures, with items related to the BIG5 personality model, Lewin's autocratic, democratic and laissez-faire leadership styles, as well as ethical, charismatic and transformational leadership. The sampling was carried out using a snowball method, with a total of 113 respondents completing the questionnaire; therefore, no general conclusions can be drawn from the results, which are only valid for the sample set. The data obtained were analysed using SPSS software, Spearman's rank correlation tests and non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis). Our results have shown that there is a link between employees' socio-demographic characteristics and personality traits and their expectations of their manager. Our detailed analyses also revealed that there are also correlations between the degree of conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience of respondents and their expectations of their manager.
